Adopt an Orca
Adopt an Orca

Adopt an Orca

from £3.00/mth

Orcas are highly intelligent and very social creatures. They are the largest member of the dolphin family and can weigh up to 6 tonnes and grow to 9 meters. That is almost as long as a school bus!

Born Free are focussed on protecting orca’s as they are under threat from habitat pollution, fishing nets, and in some locations a lack of food due to overfishing. In addition, there has for many years been a practice of taking orcas from the wild to be kept in cramped conditions in captivity for entertainment. Born Free are passionately opposed to that practice and work to educate against it.

When you adopt an orca through Born Free funds from your adoption will help the Born Free-supported Orcalab, which monitors wild populations. By better understanding orca behaviour, their future can be better protected.

What you get
  • Your own cuddly toy orca.
  • Adoption Pack, including a personalised certificate, animal story, fact sheet and glossy photo to display.
  • “Adopt” Magazine delivered bi-annually with exclusive updates from Born Free.

Adopt a Giraffe
Adopt a Giraffe

Adopt a Giraffe

from £3.00/mth

Giraffes are the tallest mammals on earth. Their legs alone, at around 6ft for adults, are taller than most humans! Sadly these beautiful and graceful animals are classed as vulnerable on the IUCN’s Red List.

Loss of habitat, human conflict and poaching are the main issues threatening their numbers in the wild. There has been a population decline of 40% over the past 50 years, and they have become extinct in seven African countries.

Giraffes are also a familiar sight in zoos and circuses across the world. However, life in captivity subjects these wide-ranging animals to health problems and inadequate living space, which is why Born Free work to conserve their numbers in the wild, to provide the life they deserve to lead.

Adopting a giraffe with Born Free supports their work with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to protect threatened giraffes across Africa.

What you get
  • Soft Toy – your own cuddly toy giraffe to keep at home.
  • Adoption Pack, including a personalised certificate, animal story, fact sheet and glossy photo to display.

Adopt a Moon Bear

Adopt a Moon Bear

They can be found in 18 countries from Iran to China, mainly in forested regions. There has been a 31% decline in their numbers over the past 30 years.

Funds from your adoption support the lifetime care of rescued bears at Animals Asia’s sanctuary in China. In addition, the funds go towards rescuing Moon bears across China, and campaigning against the cruel practice of bear farming.

Why Adopt an Animal as a Gift?

Stop the extinction of species

Many species are under threat and without our protection a species like a tiger may no longer be around in the wild for future generations to enjoy. By adopting an animal as a gift either for yourself or someone you care about, you can make a real difference to their endangered status and feel good in the process.

A great gift idea

Many people struggle with what to come up with for a unique gift idea for a friend or loved one. If you are one of those people, why not adopt an animal? You can be sure the person you gift an animal adoption will be thrilled. After all, who wouldn’t like the idea that their name is being used to adopt a panda or an elephant?

Charities need your help

Many wildlife charities receive most of their funding from individual donors. It is easy to look at the cost of animal adoption and think the money you spend won’t make the slightest bit of difference. Nothing could be further from the truth. If millions of people make the effort to adopt an animal the amount charities will have to spend on their conservation efforts will be enormous and an animal adoption will allow them to continue with the important work they do.
