World Animal Day – October 4th 2010

WWF UK was pleased to see World Animal Day celebrated across the globe on Monday 4th October 2010, and you too could join in the jubilation and help protect endangered wildlife by adopting an animal.

World Animal Day first began in Florence, Italy, in 1931 to highlight the plight of endangered animals across the globe. First launched in the UK only 7 years ago, the date October 4th was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

World Animal Day celebrates –

  • Animal life in all forms
  • Humans relationship with animals
  • Acknowledge the pivotal roles animals play in our lives

With some of the world’s most beautiful animals currently facing extinction, now is a great time to help the WWF’s work around the world and adopt an animal today. It’s a great way to show you care for the world’s animals, and also makes a great charity gift for a friend or loved one.
