Shipping Industry Could Profit from 20% Cut in Emissions Claim WWF
The WWF charity has stated that international shipping could reduce its emissions by at least 20% at a negative cost to the industry. Shipping is currently responsible for nearly 3% of all global emissions but has so far not agreed to any emissions reduction agreements.
WWF Report 30% of the World’s Coral May Disappear
According to new reports by WWF UK, 30% of the worlds most diverse coral reefs are set to disappear by the end of the century if global leaders do not tackle climate change. The report shows that the ecosystem that could be most affecting the will be the Coral Triangle, which covers the coasts, reefs
and seas of Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste.
WWF to Grade all Palm Oil Buyers
The WWF charity has released figures that show only 1% of the sustainable palm oil available on the market has been purchased. The WWF now plan to assess the world’s major palm oil users over the next six months and publish a score system to endorse companies that support sustainable palm oil and exposing those who have not purchased.
WWF Concern at Cameroon Anti Poaching Raid
WWF UK concerns over poaching in southeast Cameroon has seen authorities arrest 15 wildlife poachers and seize over 1,000 kgs of illegal bush meat in a hugely successful police operation. The Cameroon Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife’s anti poaching operation joined the national military to uncover the remains of several protected species such as gorillas, elephants, and chimpanzees, alongside 30 guns including high calibre rifles and illegally owned AK-47’s.
WWF Increase Efforts to Save Western Grey Whale
The WWF charity efforts to save one of the world’s most endangered whales are looking up as Sakhalin Energy agreed to suspend planned seismic testing in their crucial feeding area. The Western Grey Whale, with only 35 breeding females, feed only in the summer, with it’s primary feeding area at the north eastern part of Sakhalin, just off the shore of Russia.
EU Analysis Points to Fisheries Failure
The WWF charity is welcoming the European Commission Green paper that highlights the current failings of the Common Fisheries Policy. This paper is providing real evidence for the need to reform the policy, which dictates how European fisheries are managed, to save Europe’s fish stocks.
WWF UK Respond to G20 Meeting
In response to yesterdays G20 meeting in London, which saw mass demonstrations converge onto the streets, Director of Campaigns for WWF UK, David Hunter, said –
