Concern Millienium Development Goals

With over a billion people across the globe going to bed hungry every night, Concern Worldwide is highlighting the fact that 60% of these people are women, despite the fact that they produce a majority of food in developing countries. Women play a hugely vital role in the fight against hunger, yet it is sometimes unrecognised by the outside world.

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has been set up by the world’s countries and leading development institutes to help improve the lives of the world’s poorest people by 2015. Their are 8 main goals and these are –

  • Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • Achieve universal primary education
  • Promote gender equality and empower women
  • Reduce child mortality
  • Improve maternal health
  • Combat HIV, AIDS and other diseases
  • Ensure environmental sustainability
  • Create a global partnership for development

When the world leaders meet in September 2010, Concern will be there to deliver your message to the UN and make sure they keep their promises. By adding your voice to the cause you will be helping the millions of women around the world who have to work so hard to try and nurture and safeguard their families future. With your help this global cycle of poverty can finally be put to rest and every hungry mouth can be fed.
