British Red Cross Helping Britains in Egypt

A British Red Cross team has been sent to Cairo to come to the aid of Britons who wish to leave the unstable state and return to the UK as soon as possible. The social support team was deployed today to help provide practical and emotional support for those stuck in the country and in desperate need of transportation out.

The British Red Cross team consists of Jan Moore, a psychotherapist from Leicester, and Pam Williamson, a psychotherapist from London, who are being sent out as part of a Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Rapid Deployment Team.

Head of British Red Cross emergency planning, Simon Lewis, said –

Our psycho-social teams will be there to give help and advice to people who are trying to make their way home, and to offer them emotional support too. Sometimes things like not being able to pass messages to family back home or deal with practicalities can be distressing in a situation like this, and that is the kind of assistance our teams can give.

British Red Cross trained volunteers are currently on standby to offer support to people affected by emergencies overseas and were last called into action to assist Britons following the Haiti earthquake last year. Red Cross workers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to conflicts, disasters and emergencies across the globe.

It’s thanks to your kind donations that the British Red Cross can provide this amazing worldwide service, you make this all possible.
