What is performance marketing?
The ongoing upkeep of charity-gifts.org is funded by performance marketing links (also known as affiliate marketing). As a website publisher we get paid a small commission on sales of products or services featured on our web pages. It’s important to note that not everyone pays us a commission. We want to keep our sites as useful and as informative as possible so we often feature information relating to other providers regardless of whether we receive a fee.
Any advertising revenues raised ensures our site can be kept up to date and useful for our visitors. We use a 3rd party to enable our affiliate partnerships. These 3rd party intermediaries are known as affiliate networks. A network manages the relationship between our website and the charities / organisations that appear on our pages. The affiliate networks track all sales to ensure the web publishers are correctly reimbursed for sales they generated.
What information is tracked by performance marketing links?
The tracking is limited to sales data such as (but not exclusive to) when a link was clicked, what time a sale was made, how much the sale was for and which publisher site delivered the sale. This tracking is managed by something called a cookie.
Please note your personal information is not tracked at all during this process.
How are cookies used on this website?
A cookie is a short piece of computer code which is created when you click on an affiliate link on a site such as ours. That cookie does not contain any data about you. It does however contain information about the publisher website and also the advertiser whilst you remain anonymous.
How long does the cookie last?
These cookies can last from 1 day to around 4 weeks. This is to ensure that a sale can be attributed correctly to the publisher who delivered the sale. For example you may visit our site and click off to one of the featured charities. You may then visit other websites, Facebook for example then decide you will buy later. If you then buy several days later your cookie will still be there to correctly attribute the original sale.
You can control and manage your cookie settings via your web browser settings. You can view more information on how to manage cookies here.
