NSPCC Call for Fast Tracking of Young Witness Court Cases

The NSPCC charity has revealed research that shows young witnesses often have to wait more than a year to give evidence in Crown Court cases in the UK. The research shows that cases involving child witnesses take up to two months longer than most other cases, with more than 33% of hearings being rescheduled at least once.

NSPCC Advice to Help Spot Head Injuries

The NSPCC charity is offering advice to doctors, social workers, police officers and other professionals to help recognise signs of inflicted head and spinal injuries in children. At least three babies and toddlers are hospitalised due to deliberate head injuries every week. Other injuries such as bruising, burns, fractures of the skull and brain injuries can also remain hidden.

NSPCC Concern at the Triple Number of Suicide Calls

The NSPCC charity has reported a huge upsurge in the number of suicidal children who have called ChildLine for councilling in the last 5 years. Last year alone saw nearly 3,000 children phone in about contemplating suicide, with the number calling in every week tripling in the last five years to an average of nearly 60.

NSPCC Request Law Change for Violent Parents

The NSPCC charity figures show that every ten days one child is killed at the hands of their parent in the UK. In over half of all cases, the parent is the principal suspect in children killed at the hands of another person.
