KT Tunstall Launches Countdown to Earth Hour – 31-03-12

WWF UK were pleased as punch when KT Tunstall started the countdown to Earth Hour 2012, which kicks off on Saturday 31st March at 8.30pm. Earth Hour is a really simple idea which started in Sydney 5 years ago, and has since turned into a huge global phenomenon. What started as 2.2million people in Sydney turning their lights off in a show of support to raise awareness on climate change, now sees hundreds of millions of supporters taking part across the globe on the same night.

I’m delighted to have switched off the festive lights at Westfield London to launch WWF’s Earth Hour. It’s such a simple, powerful campaign and it’s a great feeling to be joining many millions of others around the world who care and are taking action. I’ve always cared deeply about the environment and try my best to limit the impact my life and work has on the planet. It’s not easy but there are simple steps and commitments you can make – and WWF’s Earth Hour is a great chance to tell others what you are doing and get them to join you.

Landmarks in the UK that will be turned off include Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Edinburgh Castle, in what is sure to be a night to remember. WWF UK will also be launching a country wide competition looking for an area to lead the switch off, and receive a £1,000 grant. To put your community in the running, simply click on the link below and tell WWF why your area is the perfect candidate to become the UK Earth Hour Champion Community for 2012.

It really does look like Earth Hour 2012 is going to be by far the biggest yet…
