New Face For Poppy Appeal Online – Legion Live

The Royal British Legion has unveiled a new virtual character who will be fronting their 2009 Appeal online. ‘Poppy’ will be hosting the ‘Legion Live’ interactive online community, alongside regular blog posts and video stories.

Poppy was ‘born’ Nov. 11th, is 28 years old, and has a brother in the Armed Forces and a grandfather who served in the British Army. She will be welcoming members to Legion Live where they can chat to her and connect with other users through groups and forums. Poppy also hopes to attract up to 100,000 friends in the next 2 years, via various social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Bebo. LegionLive is hoping to attract a younger generation of supporters as they attempt to raise £31 million to help the wounded and bereaved from the war in Afghanistan.

Head of Media and Campaigns at the Royal British Legion, Robert Lee, said –

The introduction of LegionLive is a major step forward online for the Legion, and demonstrates our commitment to reaching out to Serving and ex-Armed Forces and their families for many years to come.

Members of LegionLive will be able to set up an account which will include a photo and personal information. Members can then connect with other people on the site, and join groups, add comments and discuss different topics. These message boards will be an interesting and useful tool for discussion and sharing advice on a wide variety of Legion issues.
