Plan UK Photography Competition – Shoot Nations 2010

Plan UK has teamed up with Shoot Experience to launch their 4th Shoot Nations competition. The annual event, which is a global youth photography competition, sees thousands of entries from over 100 countries across the globe as the participants compete to be the world’s best young photographer.

The UK winner will be presented at the UN headquarters in New York on August 12th 2010, as part of an all expenses paid trip. This date is particularly significant as it is also International Youth Day. This year’s theme is ‘City Living’, and with over 50% of the world now living in built up urban areas, these photos will reflect the sign of the times for many of the world’s population. The judges will this year be looking for innovative imagery from around the globe that truly encapsulates everyday life in the world’s cities.

Shoot Nations leader George Anang’a, from Plan UK, said –

This is the fourth Shoot Nations competition in which Plan have participated and every year the bar just gets higher, the standard is fantastic. The idea is that the smallest community or family issue in any area of the world can be photographed and displayed at the highest level of global government, the United Nations. This year we want to use the cities theme to build a picture of what urban environments mean to young people whilst focusing on the movement of people and the impact this has on the surrounding environment.

This competition is free to enter and has two age categories –

  • 11 – 16 years
  • 17 – 25 years

All entrants should submit a maximum of three photos each, alongside an explanation of what each shot represents to the photographers idea of ‘City Living’. The best UK entries will be revealed on MTV, with the best photo winner being chosen by MTV viewers. Plus if you don’t win the trip to New York there will be a host of other prizes including Olympus cameras, designer maps and National Geographic subscriptions.
