The WWF and Sky have combined to create this Rainforest Adopt an Acre programme which helps you to protect and conserve the habitat of thousands of species of animals.

Everyone knows the Amazon region needs our help to preserve it. It is the lifeblood of thousands of species and supports upwards of 30 million people and has an ecological impact on the whole world. The immediate problem is that each and every minute an area the size of 3 football pitches gets destroyed. Adopt An Acre and your regular donation combined with Sky’s Rainforest Rescue matched funding can help to halt this worrying trend.

About Sky Rainforest Rescue

Sky and WWF have joined together with the goal of saving one billion trees in the Amazon rainforest. With your help adopting an acre they want to protect around 3 million hectares from deforestation - that's about the size of Belgium!

Why should we save the rainforest?

You will have heard of climate change, well here is a very important fact from WWF :

"Deforestation creates up to a fifth of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions - that’s as much as all the world’s cars, planes, trains and ships put together. In Acre alone, deforestation between 1996 and 2005 generated around 22 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year."

Despite this fact the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest is continuing at an alarming pace. It's difficult to understand the reality that every minute an area the size of three football pitches is destroyed but it is true and has caused about 20% of the Amazon rainforest to be lost already to deforestation.
