Help Demand a Fair Deal with Action Aid UK

Now is a great time to support Action Aid’s latest initiative to ask for a fair deal to overseas workers who grow the fruit and veg in our supermarkets for very little pay. Over 2000 people have already added their voice to the growing calls for a ‘supermarket watchdog’ to ensure workers in poor countries are rewarded in a fair wage for their labour.

Some supermarkets are currently trying to ‘water down’ the influence that the watchdog will be allowed to wield over their businesses, but surely…

if they have nothing to hide, where’s the problem?

With many of the major supermarkets making literally billions in profit, it is now time for the government to better monitor exactly how and where the stock is coming from. In many cases, it is people in developing countries, with the majority of them being women, who produce the fruit and vegetables that stock our supermarket shelves. Many of them work in appalling conditions for extremely low pay.

If you would like to join the fight for a supermarket watchdog to monitor how the big companies obtain their stock from developing countries, click on the link below to add your voice to those of thousands of other people. I just did it, and it literally takes 20 seconds, and your email could be the difference that stops supermarket giants exploiting poor people.
